We are still loving this city. It reminds me of a slightly smaller Nashville
set against the mountains. There are no high
rises, but the downtown area is pretty big and clean and vibey. It feels quaint and edgy at the same time.
We started off this morning at Garden of the Gods. It is a huge park with driving and hiking
trails. We did some of both. The rock formations are very
interesting. And everything (even
WalMart) is pretty when set against a backdrop of mountains. We spent about 4 hours driving, hiking and
picnicking. And it was free.
Early afternoon, we headed back downtown to Uncle Wilbur’s
(free) Fountain. It was more crowded
today because it was a bit warmer. The
girls had fun, but every time that “breeze” (heftier breezes than I’m used to!)
blew, their teeth chattered. Once they
dried off and warmed up in the sun for a bit, they decided that they were
hungry for ice cream. There was a smart
man selling it from a cart at the entrance!
Brad was browsing down the block at a book store and a music store. I am a wimp at saying no, so they ate their
ice cream and watched the fountain for a while till Brad was done
shopping. (Yes – they were done playing
in the water before he was done shopping! But it WAS books and guitars.)
We haven’t had a fire in a while, so we lit one and had some
s’mores. They were extra good tonight. Happy travels!
Gail and I spent a day there on our honeymoon. Great memories.
