Tuolomne (too-ALL-uh-mee) Meadows is the east side of
Yosemite. They have a campground that is
half reservable (and was booked full till August 15 when we checked in May!)
and half first come! I called yesterday
and talked to a guy who said they had a bunch of spots opening up today
(Sunday, July 1, our anniversary). So we
left around 8:00 and got there around 8:30 and got ourselves a site! I’m so relieved. I really wanted to stay in this park.
Then we did nothing, really nothing. Driving to our site over the crazy-narrow and
bumpy road was a feat in itself. Then we
set up camp. The girls were in play
dream-land with all the nature around us.
Brad took a nap. I organized the
bear box and read and dozed in my camp chair in the sun. In 75 degree temps. Oh yes.
We are at 8,000 ft. Nice cool
weather. We hear it’s hot back in
Nashville with temps over 100.
We drove the Tuolomne Meadows “strip” and went to the
visitor’s center to get the scoop on hiking and on the Valley. Then we went back to Lee Vining (the town
where we stayed the night before) and bought a few groceries – the prices were
outrageous!! – and let Audra take a shower.
