Today was a traveling day, but first we had to finish the
museums in Cody. Brad also found another little
museum. I mean LITTLE. Tecuhmseh’s Trading Post is a giant room that
has real Cowboy and Indian artifacts all along the outside wall, and then there
is a giant display in the middle of the room of miniature C/I scenes. There are audio presentations that tell an
overview of the chronological history of the Plains Indians. There were also a few trains you could run on
the tracks. Carmen loved this.
The gift shop out front was an attraction all its own. The gentleman that owned it (and his wife)
made a lot of the deer and elk bags and other items. He also operated the counter! He and Brad had quite a conversation. (He
used to be a musician and on the side he collected things…sounds
familiar.) Brad bought an elk skin
satchel and Carmen bought a deerskin purse.
The owner put a button on Brad’s bag and a long strap on C’s purse.
Then we had to check out of our campground, but I had seen
good RV parking at the BBHC. We hitched
up the trailer and went back to the museums.
We only had one more to go. (We didn’t go through the western art
museum.) The Yellowstone Natural History
Museum was set up really neat. You
started on the upper floor in the Alpine zone (“above 10,000 ft”) and worked
your way down, literally, through five zones to the Plains/Basin. Each area told about the animal, plant and
geological characteristics of its zone.
We knew most of it already from being at Yellowstone, but it was still
enjoyable. The girls got to stamp page
in a booklet at each level.
After that, we headed out of town. We stopped by an RV place to check about our
shower, but they didn’t have the people or parts to help us. We drove to a KOA in Hardin, MT, which is
about 15 minutes from Little Big Horn National Monument. That’s where we’ll go tomorrow.
