Today was a short travel day. We drove about an hour and a half to the
Minuteman Missile Visitor Center where the girls picked up JR books, we watched
an info film, and got (free) tickets for the 1:30 MM Historic Site tour. We hung out in the camper in the parking lot,
ate lunch and the girls finished watching Empire Strikes Back (started last
night). At 1:10 we drove a few exits
back to the Historic site for our tour.
It was very informative and definitely gave you a feel for the sacrifice
the USAF soldiers were prepared to make and what a scary time the Cold War
years were. We learned a lot! Then we drove a few more exits back to Wall,
SD to check in to our campsite.
We set up camp and rested a bit
before heading over to the famous Wall Drug Store (est. 1931). This is way more
than a drug store. It is a huge complex
with lots of stores, quirky attractions, several restaurants and a small, water
play park! It is famous for offering
passing tourists free ice water. I had
some free ice water, some 5-cent coffee, some $10 chicken strips and fries and
a $3 ice cream cone.
We’ve had lots of storms in and out
the past two days, but I think they are about over. It’s cooled things off nicely for us!
