As soon as Carmen’s eyes opened
this morning she was out the door playing with Maggie. The 4 kids played again while the adults
visited over coffee for a couple of hours until our friends had to go. We exchanged info and said farewell. Carmen was sad.
So, after laughing at my mom for
thinking we were going to be on the TJ Hour, now we are going to be on the TJ
Hour! (She said, “See? I knew they’d put you on.”). I think they needed to meet Brad and talk to
him face to face before making that decision.
You can’t put just anyone on the radio.
They said this was a first – putting a listener on the show. Brad has been completely humbled and honored
for the opportunity to cross paths with these amazing people the past few days.
Now to the show. It is filled with intellectual, thought
provoking discussion. (And some comic
relief every now and then.) They bring
up a wide range of topics from current political issues, to the rover landing
on Mars, to gardening. They deal with it
all, from Thomas Jefferson’s point of view.
They discuss his life and the way he looked at things and perhaps would
look at things in today’s world. It’s fascinating
and really makes you think. We STRONGLY
recommend giving it a listen. How? I’m glad you asked. It is available on iTunes for FREE. Search under ‘podcasts’ for “Thomas Jefferson
Hour.” You can download or stream the
episodes. You can even subscribe and
iTunes will automatically download the most recent episode to your
account! Today’s recorded episode will
air on Public Radio (I don’t think there is a broadcast in Nashville) week
after next. But I think as soon as it
airs, or shortly thereafter, it will be available on iTunes. The current weekly episode is also available
on their website. In the meantime,
listen to some other episodes. They are
all great. Also, check out their
website:
Brad,
ReplyDeleteI've been following your visit to ND and the TJH and I wanted to let you know that you lived my dream of being on the show. As with you, Clay, David and Mr. J have changed my life. My wife and I recently quit our jobs to live a less conventional life (and my blog to capture it is http://livelikejefferson.com), and we are starting with a road trip from NC to Boston see some national monuments and a few parks in October. Except we have a Prius and not an RV. But I'm glad to know there are kindred spirits out there.
I've been digging a bit into your blog and right now we're living through your travels in hopes of doing something similar (more geared towards national parks) soon after we return from visiting my wife's family in Colombia until the beg. of 2013.
Nice to "meet" you through the blog and the TJH. Let me know if we can help you guys out.
Warm wishes to you and your family from me and my own.
John D.
Hi John D.
DeleteThis is Dawn, Brad's wife. I actually write the blog. Thanks for your comment and for reading! I will definitely check out your blog as well. Love that you are traveling and seeing your nation. Love that you are a Jefferson Hour listener. Did you read my entry on Day 86? It would be preaching to the choir, but I do love the story I shared that day. The National Parks are amazing, each one in their own way. We are heading to Acadia National Park tomorrow. It will be interesting to compare east coast/west coast parks. Happy travels!
Dawn
Hey Dawn and Brad,
ReplyDeleteJust caught the TJH episode that Brad was on. This is Scott that wrote in at the end with the question about the National Parks. We've been at this traveling thing for a little over 10 months now and are loving it! The National Parks have been one of the best parts, though the people we've met probably reign supreme when it comes to the most memorable parts of the trip.
Love what you all are doing. We're traveling with a 4-legged kid, which is probably significantly easier than two 2-legged human kids. The education your girls are getting on this trip can't be learned from books.
We'll keep up with you all through your blog. You can find ours at http://www.onesixtyk.com to see what kind of shenanigans we've been up to. Tomorrow, we're hitting the Grand Canyon, then up through Utah to see several of the Parks there.
Cheers
Scott
