Need I say more? We got to see Nana and Pop today! They are on their way to PA to see their other grandchildren and we conveniently were able to cross paths with them.
When we woke up this
morning, the sun was shining. We left
Big Meadows CG and drove south in the park to Loft Mountain CG. Differences for me to remember for next
time: Big Meadows CG is huge. Bathhouses are nice and clean, heated, lit,
have hot water and electrical outlets.
Sites are paved, narrow, back-ins.
It was perfect for being with another family – especially in the
freezing rain because it was so near to a lodge and VC. Loft Mtn CG is more remote. The sites are paved, pull-throughs. Our site was situated on the edge of the mtn.
right next to the AT with an amazing view of the sunset. (Lady who checked us in said “the best sunset
in the world!”) Bathhouses were the
same. Both CGs had coin laundry/showers
at the front. I think I prefer Loft Mtn.
We called Brad’s parents
when we got into our site and they headed our way. They are staying in Waynesboro, a town near
the south entrance to the park.
Interesting development with our camper… We’ve been dry camping for two
nights and it has been very cold (low 30s) so we have been running the heater thru
the night. Our battery is basically
depleted. So today we are treating it
like a tent – no water, lights, nothin’ in hopes of having a little heat
tonight and keeping the fridge running.
(The fridge is switched over to gas right now, but is displaying some
code about the battery.)
Brad’s parents arrived
around 1:30 and the boys started a fire while the girls hiked the AT. Brad is still feeling a little under the
weather and his dad wasn’t up to hiking.
We only went a little way and then looped back into the camp. It was sunny and warm once we started
hiking. Back at our site, the wind is
pretty strong and it is pretty cool. We
visited with Nana and Pop till they got cold.
They wanted to get back down the mtn before dark.
The sunset was pretty,
though it was getting pretty cloudy and we didn’t get to see it in its full
glory. The girls played on a rock
formation right beside the AT all day today.
I gave them a very specific boundary as once you get about 20 yards from
the trail, there is a steep cliff drop-off.
I hope we stay warm
tonight. The wind is very brisk and our
heater will not come on.
