Day 146 (Oct 9) – Sunny Shenandoah

Today has been much prettier.  And sunnier.  And warmer.  Not that much warmer, but the sun helps so much.  My spirits were warmer at least.  We had pancakes, eggs, bacon and fruit for breakfast.  Then Jim and Danna broke camp and packed up.  We all went a couple of miles down the road to hike up part of a mountain.  It was actually a “scramble” which is pretty much just what it sounds like.  The kids loved it.  The adults were very careful.  It was fun and had beautiful views.  I got several great pics.  This is the first place we have really seen the fall colors.  I think it has been so wet this fall that a lot of leaves fell before the colors got too rich.  It is pretty here (when the fog lifts out of the way) and it's easy to see the valley of colors below because we are up high.

After our little hike, we said goodbye to the Arnetts.  It wasn’t too hard because we know we will see them in a little over a month and we will see Brad’s parents tomorrow.  So we didn’t feel too abandoned.

We went back to the toasty, warm Great Room at the Lodge to eat a picnic lunch and catch up on electronic communication.  We played Jenga and the girls made domino snakes and then knocked them down.  That is where we are right now.  We plan to return to camp shortly and try to stay warm until bedtime.  Brad has been pretty sick the last couple of days.  He has a really nasty sinus cold.  So we won’t do too much more today.
