Day 119 (Sep 12) – Desert Dunes of Maine

We are staying at a desert campground in Maine.  No kidding.  There was this farm here and about 100 years ago, glacial silt started appearing from out of the ground.  Now there are 70 acres of sand dunes right in the middle of Maine!  We hope to take the tram tour that tells the history in more detail.  Today we took a walking tour of the dunes and had a ball.  The sand/silt is so fine and soft and cool.  It feels wonderful to walk in or dig in.  Children are allowed to dig for “treasure” in one area and the girls loved that!  There are lots of tiny colored rocks buried and each child is allowed to take three.  They found a ton, picked their favorites and reburied the rest.  Then they discovered a dune they could roll down.  We stayed there for quite a while.  Audra suggested I try it and I surprised her by actually doing it!  I laughed the whole way down the first time and got sand in my mouth.  The second time I laughed with my mouth shut!  I was quite dizzy after, but enjoyed my roll.  Brad got there just in time to try it once and he laughed the whole way too.  They had a nice little camera stand to use with the timer so we got our picture made with the camels.  What an odd and entertaining place.  We will be here for the next three nights at least.  We have business to attend to in Portland and shopping in Freeport.

Brad crossed off one of our errands today!  Our kitchen faucet has been messed up for a couple weeks.  It sprays everywhere no matter what we do.  We finally adjusted the screen so much that it fell out and now it’s really a mess.  Think we will have to replace it.  Brad’s laptop USB port stopped working.  It charges his phone, but will not transfer data.  BIG pain.  He has an appointment at the apple store in the morning.  It is still under warranty, but they will most likely have to send it off.  The toilet started acting up several days ago.  Water barely trickles out when you step on the flusher.  Brad had examined it and asked about it on the forum.  He was pretty sure something was in the line or valve blocking the water, but wasn’t sure how to get to it.  Today he just started taking things apart, pulled the whole toilet out of the camper, got into the valve and found the blockage, replaced the toilet and WA-LA, it is fixed.  We can cross that one off!  I wish things would just work like they are supposed to, but it never seems that easy.
