Day 30 - Arches National Park

It is so hot.  I think it’s unseasonably warm, though most people are saying this is fairly normal.  The books say July and Aug can have intense heat 100 degrees and up, but today’s high was 100.  The next two days are forecasting 102!  We did not start early enough today.  It is a big park, with an 18 mile drive in to the farthest trails.  We were hiking to Landscape Arch around 10:00 and it was shockingly warm.  But it was pretty!  This arch is the longest natural arch in the world (over 300 yds).  It is so thin and fragile, a huge piece of it fell out a few years ago.  Eventually it will completely break apart, as they all tend to do over time.

We saw bits and pieces of other formations and arches, but mostly the girls were done after that hike.  We explored a little and have made a new and improved plan for tomorrow, which involves getting up early!  We swam today and will swim tomorrow.  It is too hot for anything else in the afternoons.  Happy travels!

  1. Wow you guys do a lot of swearing.
Landscape arch looks like the pod race course on tatooine.
