Day 51 - Heading to Redwood NP

This is really just for me.  I hate to write it.  I hate for you to read it.  I am not sure if I can explain how bad yesterday's campground was.  It was a huge KOA, labeled a "resort."  It did have a great pool - the largest one we've been to - with a water slide, splash pad and hot tub.  Other than that it was a bust.

It started with our site that was 20 feet long (our camper is 19 feet).  Brad told the guy this and he said there was plenty of room.  We tried backing in (site was at a 90 degree angle to the narrow road) from both ways, for about 20 minutes without success.  There was a cabin directly across from us and tons of large yellow poles all along the narrow road.  No room to maneuver.  Yes, we should have driven back up to the office and gotten a different site, but Brad finally just drove around and pulled straight through from the empty site that backed up to us.  Then we had to unhitch because our truck was sticking out into the road.  Grr.

Our picnic table was under a tree that was a major pigeon roost.  Need I say more?

The bathrooms.  ugh.

Then there was the truck with neon lights playing loud music at 10:30 at night.  At least we have a nice loud fan that we run when there is noise outside.

There were other little things, crawdad-shrimp type things that were lying around our site when we arrived, dogs running around off their leashes, wi-fi that didn't work, etc.

And it was the most expensive KOA we have ever been to.  Brad is excited about writing their review for his Campfinder App!

Overall we have been really pleased with the KOAs where we have stayed.  We decided to get right back on the horse and found one for tonight north of Eureka, CA.  It may be the best one we have stayed at!  Clean bathrooms, large sites (we got a pull-thru this time!), kind helpful children at the playground (instead of the rule-breaking, rude children at the pool from yesterday).  KOA has been redeemed.

Tomorrow we head to Redwood Nat'l Park and plan to stay on the north side in Crescent City, CA.
