Day 54 – Bandon-by-the-Sea (Old-Town-Bandon) Bandon, OR

They really should pick just one name, but for now they use all three.  We headed out from our beautiful camp site at Cape Blanco SP and stopped about an hour north on 101 in this cute little town of Bandon.  It has this even cuter district by the sea (hence the second name).  There were lots of shops and seafood eateries.  We stopped at Tony’s Crab Shack and tried out the clam chowder.  It was yummy on this cold, dreary day.  Yes – it is still overcast and still cold (mid 50’s).  Maybe the sun was out for a bit around noon, but then it hid behind the gray skies again.  We looked in the quaint toy shop.  We sampled lots of jellied and chocolate candies in the Cranberry Sweets Co. (and bought a few.)  We also found a great thrift store good for a few books and a long sleeved shirt for Audra.  Then we hit gold … a used book store.  The girls have both been out of books for several days.  We bought a bagful and they have promptly finished one apiece and started on their second.  I also bought a set of myrtle wood salad tongs.  It is a hard wood that only grows in this area.

Brad struck out on the chiropractor.  He is still having back trouble.  But we are determined to get him fixed up tomorrow in Newport.

We had another couple hours to drive up the coast after Bandon.  It’s a beautiful drive.  We chose Waldport KOA for the laundry and wifi, but we definitely prefer the ambiance of state or national parks.  It’s a trade off.

Hoping for warmer weather …

  1. Thomas and I are loving the pictures this morning. We are so jealous.
Cold in Oregon? Drink coffee! Isn't there a drive-thru Dutch Bros every few miles? The kids drinks (steamers w/ whipped cream) are yummy, too.
SO so so sad about Brad's back!!

    1. Brad's back is okay. It's not awful. I tried to get him to call some places in Newport, but he didn't. He's just hoping it will get better on its own. It has a little.

We are just being cheap and not buying coffee out very often. But I did see a Starbucks that I thought about hitting in the morning...since I do have this gift card...

Is Dutch Bros better? We've seen those everywhere.
